Gucci Spring/Summer 2020 Resort

On Tuesday, 28th May Gucci Spring/Summer Resort 2020 show went down and the fashion world is excited. At this time of year, all major designers are releasing resort collections and it is a hectic time for the fashion people. (Not as hectic as Fashion Week but still).

Gucci is one of the brands that I truly adore, not particularly the garments but the story and the approach to fashion and its consumers. Their retail place in Soho, New York was fucking incredible and breathtaking. I've never seen a store being so interactive with its customers.
And Alessandro Michele, the creative director of Gucci, has really changed the game that Gucci is winning in and I love him as a person, as an individual.

This Resort 2020 collection took place in Rome. Why Rome? It's the city that Alessandro was raised in and it had huge sentimental value to him.
“Rome is a big womb and many things came out of it,” he said after a show that portrayed many of the city’s characters. “I will disappear but Rome will remain. Places that have been here for ages will remain. Saints and prostitutes.” As a true Roman, Michele takes the good with the bad because he identifies in both the spirit of freedom so vital to Romans. - vogue.co.uk
I've never been to Rome and it's one of the many cities on my bucket list. Therefore this approach made me want to pack my things and go there even more.

When we think of cruise or resort shows, we expect to see swimwear, dresses and a lot of sheer and flory fabrics but Gucci took a different approach. I mean, don't they always?
The colour palette is stunning as always, actually, it's the same colour palette as previous seasons. We also saw some iconic and stable Gucci pieces like the slippers, socks and bags. The recent Mickey Mouse pieces were also featured on the runway. Overall, I did like the styling, very vintage and retro as per usual. It's different to see fur jackets in a resort show but that's Gucci, everything they do is unique and different. The fashion world is going left, Gucci turns right. That's how I love it.

This was also the first activist collection by Alessandro as well. The recent abortion ban in Alabama awakened an angry male in Alessandro and he felt the need to express his anger towards it. Not only anger towards the whole situation but the devastation of banning freedom of choice. I could get angry and pissed just by thinking of this whole thing, I could write a separate blog post on it but it would long as hell.
“Women should be respected and considered the way some men consider themselves. They should be free to choose what they want. Terminating pregnancy is not going to uproot the flower that’s found in the womb of every woman,” Michele said. “Choices are sometimes difficult in life. It’s the most difficult choice for a woman and I respect that choice.” - vogue.co.uk
