GIFs. Why they're important?

We've all seen GIFs all over the internet for quite some time now, we know what they are, how they function when it comes to reaching a consumer. There's no secret that people are attracted to visuals, that goes for images, videos and, obviously, GIFs. I've found a perfect article on clickz.com that sums up in bullet points why GIFs are important in creating content for the consumers.

  • They're easy to effectively to consume for the audience. Since some people only remember 20% of the text they read without visuals, therefore GIFs are important in delivering the message making sure that every bit of it reaches the consumer.
GIFs may provide the right encouragement for a user to listen to a brand’s message, serving as the ideal call-to-action.
  • Better than images, but cheaper than video. Some sources claim that by 2018, 84% of communication will be visual. And brands need to think about how to create effective content keeping the expenses as minimal as possible on some things.

  • They speak the Internet language. These days, GIFs are a part of meme culture (this is incorporated in this modern era's DNA), therefore, these visuals are highly relatable to the Gen Z. "Despite the changes in content and communication through the years, brands can still be rewarded when keeping up with the times."

  • Multi-platform use. GIFs can be used across the majority of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram) and the impulse of sharing that visual is instant. Every day all around the world, people share hundreds of thousands of GIFs.
Although people behave differently on every social network, GIFs are still popular in all of them, although it’s not necessary to distribute the same content to all your platforms.

  • Storytelling. Probably the most obvious one but GIFs are very important for telling a certain story that engages with the public. Over on Tumblr, Disney uses a lot of GIFs to promote the new animation movies and they've found the perfect balance between an image and the video.

In all honesty, I do think that GIFs are important for brands in engaging with the public and fun for us, consumers, to react to those. Me and my friends share GIF everyday, whether they're fun or just a way of communicating like saying a simple 'hello' or 'good night'.

For our Levi's project, we learned how to create our own GIFs that would work well in the presentations for the brand. To be fair, I thought it would be a lot harder to create a GIF but with clear instructions and some Photoshop magic, it was a piece of cake.

Here's mine:
