STILL I RISE: FEMINISM, GENDER, RESISTANCE

Hello, my dear readers!

Over the weekend I grabbed my friend and with her by my side I went to an exhibition opening at the Nottingham Contemporary and may I say that it was the best exhibition that I've been to in ages!

The entire building was full of people of all backgrounds: artists, lecturers, art admirers (as myself), youths and elderly. The 'Still I Rise: Feminism, Gender, Resistance' exhibition was and is truly powerful in all these three aspects. Every single artist created something memorable, whether it was a photograph, a drawing, a sculpture or any other kind of an exhibit. The event was totally free, there were cocktails and live dance performance of Okwui Okpokwasili that was absolutely incredible. And the atmosphere of this entire night was just the one that we see in all these fabulous movies.

I was fascinated and in some form of angry when I saw what women had to do in order to gain the right to vote, the right to an equal pay or an equal worth as an individual. And that is exactly what the exhibition is about. Yes, we are still fighting against sexism and rape, but just looking back at what we, as feminists, as a nation, have accomplished is just phenomenal. These topics are super sensitive, they bring out the raging feminist in every single female out there and I could go on from hour to hour about how we all should be feminists, including males.

If you are ever in the Nottingham area until 27th January, I highly recommend going to Nottingham Contemporary and having a look at this exhibition because it is definitely worth the visit.

All the love in the world,
Karolina x
