'House of Z' review

I've always heard the name Zac Posen in magazines, articles and social media but I never really paid attention to his designs till I watched the documentary 'House of Z'.

Zac Posen - a young (38) American fashion designer who experiences the fall and rise of his empire. Well, I wouldn't call it an empire rather than just a high fashion label. Posen is known for precise tailoring and stunning gowns that we see on red carpets. For this year's Met Gala, he created beautiful dresses for Jourdan Dunn, Nina Dobrev, Katie Holmes, Julia Garner and Deepika Padukone and they were all incredibly detailed. That's another thing that Posen is known for - detailing. Every single one of his creations have visible attention to detail, every little thing is made with extreme precision to perfection.

Like a lot of designer and creators, Zac Posen experienced a downfall of his career back in 2008 but after a while, he rose from the ashes like a Phoenix (the most cliche metaphor in the history).

“Vogue Runway” director Nicole Phelps remarks at the start of “House of Z,” “He’s the designer who we got to watch fall.”And fall he did, thanks to a backlash spurred by both a belief that he’d been given too many early advantages (and thus hadn’t earned his stature on his own), and also by his own over-the-top flamboyance at shows and in the press. Those growing attitudes, coupled with financial strains placed upon him by the 2008-’09 stock market crash, swiftly undercut his dreams, leaving him to flee to Paris, where another flop only further underscored the notion that he was an arrogant “poseur.” Worse still, it led to a deep rift between Posen and his mother and sister, who’d soon leave the company. - variety.com

It was devastating to see such a talented young man trip on his own mistakes: extravagant lifestyle, fame and success wrapped his head into a never-ending spiral that he was eager to get out of. And the process of him doing so, made me appreciate him and look into his work. At the end of the day, we are all humans, we make mistakes but it's important to believe in redemption. And that's what the world did for Zac Posen. I'm not justifying his fall by saying that he was too young for such pressure but it's understandable why it happened. What's important is that he learned from his error, fixed it and moved on. Ever since this fiasco, he was one of the judges on Project Runway for 6 seasons, he continued designing beautiful gowns for celebrities, he created affordable bridal gown line called Truly Zac Posen and many more achievement under his name and talent.

The movie itself was beautifully directed, we got to see a lot of behind the scenes footage and what actually goes behind the designing and executing of a fashion show and a collection (those are my favourite types of movies).
